This was the old bridge across Thunder Creek, about a mile above its confluence with the Skagit. The water here is now pooled up behind Diablo Dam. This bridge was already no longer used as of 1976, and you can see why. Still, it's a thing of great beauty. One of the old-timers (Everett (Buck) McKinney, of Winthrop, Washington) on the North Cascades National Park trail crew, used to be sent off into the Cascades with a horse, a mule, axes, saws and block and tackles to build such things by hand.
